Introduction

Creative Activity had the pleasure of working with Sacred Heart Boys National School in Dublin to deliver a brand-new bespoke Trim Trail for their outdoor space. With the sun shining and pupils already enjoying the equipment, the impact of the installation has been immediate and positive. This project highlights the power of purposeful outdoor play solutions—supporting both learning and wellbeing.

Background

Our partnership with Sacred Heart Boys National School is long-standing, having previously worked together on the development of their sensory room. The strong relationship built over time meant that when Principal Niall Carty sought to enhance their outdoor environment, he turned to Creative Activity to bring the vision to life.

The Challenge

The school was keen to create an outdoor area that would support pupils with special educational needs—particularly those who benefit from regular movement breaks throughout the day. The goal was to provide a space that was both functional and engaging, giving children the freedom to regulate their energy in a positive and structured way. However, the challenge was to ensure this space was inclusive and enjoyable for all pupils, not just those with additional needs.

The Solution

Working closely with Principal Niall Carty, Creative Activity managed the full process—from design consultation and product selection through to full installation. The result is a carefully curated Trim Trail that encourages physical activity, balance, coordination, and fun.

The trail has become a much-loved feature of the school grounds. While initially intended for pupils with additional needs, the school has noticed its wider impact: all students are benefiting from the opportunity to release energy, connect with peers, and return to the classroom refreshed and ready to learn.
